The Future Business Leaders of American (FBLA), Hispanic Honor Society, International Club, National Honor Society (NHS), French Honor Society, Key Club, and DECA clubs at Alexander High School combined efforts to collect food for the needy this holiday season. More than three barrels of food were collected for The Pantry in Douglasville. It is the mission of each of the clubs to perform service for the community. The effort was spearheaded by Rocio Broyles, the adviser for the International Club and Julie Chapman, the advisor for FBLA. All of the participating clubs felt that it was a great to work together this year and plan to continue the effort next year.
Month: December 2016
On the evening of Monday, October 17th, 2016, members of the Houston County High School FBLA Chapter volunteered their time to promote technology education among the Warner Robins community. Students Monica T., Katlyn S., Sabina A., Tam T., Han T., Devin H., and Anjali P. participated and spent the two and a half hours at the Houston County Career Academy aiding participants in setting up Twitter, Facebook, and other social media accounts. Students also answered miscellaneous questions and advised participants of the computer class on how to best reduce security risks when using social media. The volunteers had a blast educating adults about the usefulness of social media and the ways that social media connects people around the world. Not only were FBLA volunteers able to teach others about social media and identity theft precautions, but they were also able to aid the participants in a tour of the Houston County Career Academy facilities. Overall, volunteering at the Adult Computer Class was a rewarding experience for Houston County High School’s FBLA chapter.
Houston County High School FBLA kicked off the new school year at their first annual chapter meeting on August 17, 2016 in the Senior Dining room. The event was open to all students at Houston County High School and more than 100 students were in attendance. The 2016-2017 Chapter officers publicized, recruited, and welcomed students to the chapter meeting by informing them that it was their Time to Shine with Georgia FBLA. At the meeting, officers Hope, Keerti, Katlyn, and Kyrsten led the crowd in a fun game of Gorilla, Man, Gun which encouraged networking and teamwork. Afterward, officers Nivedha, Alex, Monica, Sabina, and Tam encouraged members to leave behind their Legacy by getting involved and promoting FBLA throughout the community. After a brief presentation of pictures and memories from the previous year, pizza, chips, and drinks were given out to those in attendance and officers socialized and answered questions from members. The first meeting was a success and Houston County FBLA looks forward to another successful year!
Happy Holidays, Georgia FBLA! It’s a great time to invite people to your chapter meetings and get them excited about the region and state conferences. While you do it, you’ll be completing Future Activity 23:
Text five (5) friends and invite them to the next FBLA meeting. (Make sure to list the names on the interactive form.)
So grab your phone and write a friendly text message to 5 friends! This will help promote your local FBLA chapter and share with others the impact FBLA can have on students!
Every year FBLA members and chapters from across our country and world take a special week to celebrate their advisers, publicize FBLA activities, boost membership, and gear up for all the amazing events happening in the spring. This very special week is FBLA week which will be from February 12th through the 18th.
Be sure to start thinking of some great activities you and your chapter can celebrate in order to show off your FBLA chapter to your entire school and community. If you can’t think of anything here is a schedule of daily themes your chapter can participate in.
Monday – FBLA Each One Reach One Day
Tuesday- FBLA Professional Dress Day
Wednesday – FBLA Adviser Appreciation Day
Thursday – FBLA Career Awareness Day
Friday – FBLA Spirit Day
Saturday – FBLA Community Service Day
These are some great activities to celebrate FBLA week! You may choose to participate in these or create your own. Either way, be sure to keep Georgia FBLA updated with all of your activities by posting pictures or videos on your chapter’s social media accounts using the #GAFBLA and #FBLAPBLWeek
Participating in FBLA is a great way to keep your members excited about being in FBLA and it’s an easy opportunity to inform the public about the great things your chapters are doing!
