Coming Together for One Cause
Tuesday, November 17, was the March of Dimes World Prematurity Awareness Day. In support of and to raise awareness for prematurity issues, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter from Alexander High School, Chapel Hill High School, mand Douglas County High School joined with the Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) members from West Georgia Technical College in wearing purple.
As students went about their day on Tuesday, they were asked, “Why is there so many people with purple on today?” This gave students the opportunity to inform others about the issues of helping care for and prevent prematurity. According to the March of Dimes, 380,000 babies are born too soon every year in the Unites States; worldwide that number is 15 million. Many of these babies do not survive and, those who do, often have lifelong health issues. The March of Dimes is working to solve this problem.
The three organizations plan to make this an annual event where they join together to raise awareness for the issue of prematurity.
