How to be More Involved in Your Local Chapter

1. Lead as an Officer

Becoming a local chapter officer is probably one of the most obvious forms of local chapter involvement. Talk to your adviser about the application process for your school and trainings, such as SLOTS, to enhance your FBLA experience while you are in office. Local chapter officers are not only involved themselves, but they encourage others to get involved in their local chapters. However, it could be past your school’s application deadline, and therefore be too late to apply this year. In this case, there are still other opportunities to be involved in your local chapter.

2. Help Fundraise

Fundraising is the primary source of local chapter income. Any form of local chapter expenses and granted scholarships are derived from funds raised throughout the year. In order to show your chapter how much you care about its success, plan a new fundraiser or be active in an existing project.

3. Serve on Committees

Committees are a terrific way to get involved in your local chapter in more specific fields. From social media to community service, committees are the place for you to have your voice heard and make decisions involving your chapter.

4. Recruit, Recruit, Recruit

Member recruitment helps show your passion for FBLA to prospective members. New members need to be shown that FBLA is the place for them. By helping new members get their feet wet in FBLA, you can be involved in your chapter by planning a new member banquet or simply recruiting as many members as possible to show your chapter pride.

5. Participate in and Plan FBLA Sponsored Socials and Gatherings

Most chapters host various FBLA sponsored events throughout the year. Attending these events and assisting your adviser plan them are great opportunities to increase your participation. Participation in locally sponsored activities is an awesome way to be involved in your chapter.

6. Get Involved with Competitive Events

Competitive events are an incredible way to show your skills on the regional, state, and national levels. However, these competitions are not just for individual recognition, they are for the recognition of your chapter. Competitive events directly correlate with the sweepstakes championship at both region and state competition. The sweepstakes championship is based on chapters who excel in competitive events. Because of your passion for competitive events, you and your chapter will gain new opportunities for recognition and awards.

By being more involved, you and your chapter can enhance your FBLA experience to be better than ever before.
