As football and Homecoming season commences, you might find yourself at a loss for time to complete your FBLA BAAs! A quick and easy activity that you can complete before the end of the month is Progress Activity #20 in the Future Level! The bulk of your work will go into writing an invitation to a guest speaker (ideally a local businessperson or community leader) to speak to your local chapter members at your next chapter meeting!
Inviting a business leader to speak at your local chapter meeting can benefit your chapter in many ways. A guest speaker who is well versed and experienced in different aspects of business – such as parliamentary procedures, business law, and business communications – can help your chapter during the upcoming FBLA competition season. By building this early connection between the businessperson and your local chapter, you can ensure that your chapter’s competitors receive qualified help during their preparation for competition! Also, a guest speaker can inspire your chapter and bring new ideas to your chapter for service and fundraising projects. They might even offer partnerships with your local chapter for fundraising events after they see all of the meaningful activities that your chapter does!
The best way to invite a local business leader to speak at your next chapter meeting is to send an e-mail or a letter to their office, formally inviting them to the next chapter meeting on behalf of your chapter. Make sure to explain to them what FBLA is all about and to include the topic you would like for them to speak about to your members! You can consult the official FBLA Format Guide to correctly format your e-mail or letter!
In order to begin your BAA journey, meet with your local chapter adviser today to receive your individual login information. All BAAs must be submitted by the national deadline, March 1, 2016. If you would like to preview the requirements for the Future BAA, click here.
