CountryFest and JDRF Glow Fun Run
When meeting over this past summer, the officers of Bleckley County High School FBLA were given the opportunity to come up with new ideas for the coming year in the area of community service and involvement. Our own co-president, Maisilyn C, was diagnosed with Juvenile Type 1 Diabetes as a small child and has a true passion and purpose in finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Maisi has been instrumental in coming up with possible ideas and after sharing the ideas with other CTSO groups at Bleckley County High School, we decided that a Fun Run would be a great way to get the community involved in the JDRF effort as well as provide a safe family fun activity for local residents. We then thought about the great influx and activity that we have with the CountryFest. This is when FBLA went to the Chamber of Commerce and asked for permission on doing a Fun Run for Festival this year. Great minds think alike! Mr. Rusty Lloyd and others had already thought of adding a Fun Run to the CountryFest this year so the connection was made. We had a wonderful opportunity to work together to bring awareness and funds to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. We hope to present a check in the coming weeks to the organization.
Members participating at the event included: Maisilyn C, Olivia W, Ciara Y, Tyler M, Juliet C, and Lee H. Advisers Melissa Barker and Julie Lane were also there for the event.
FBLA members sold glow items at the beginning of the race. All proceeds from Glow Sales were donated to the JDRF. A portion of the proceeds from Fun Run signups will also be donated to the JDRF. In speaking with Chamber members after and during the event, we immediately made plans for another run in the future. We are super excited about the relationship we have formed with our local Chamber of Commerce and the opportunities we will have to work together in the future.
Special thank you to everyone who came out and participated in the event! Fear not BCHS Football we were listening to the game as you blew the Falcons away!
