This blog covers the Job Interview event.
This event is designed for members in grades 9 through 12.
In this event, chapters can submit 1 individual entry. The top 1 entry from each RLC will advance to state.
This event involves an interview and requires a pre submission of a PDF cover letter and PDF resume. Resumes should not exceed 2 pages and the cover letter should be 1 page. The resume should highlight your volunteer and/or work experience, as well as your education. Cover letters should address why you’re fit for the business job at Merit Corporation, a fictitious company. Make sure to follow the rating sheet for more resume and cover letter guidelines.
Prior to the interviews at RLC and SLC, you will be required to submit both the cover letter and resume. There will be a 5-7 minute interview at RLC, 7 minute interview at the preliminary round of SLC, and a 10 minute interview at the final round of SLC.
The interview will cover why you’re fit for the business job at Merit Corporation. You will be judged on your interviewing skills as well as how qualified you are for the job as of the end of the current school year. The qualifications and content on the resume, cover letter, and spoken about in the interview must be real, not fictitious or what might be in the future.
The interview score, worth ⅔, and the application materials score, worth ⅓, will determine the placement and awards for the Region Leadership Conference and the preliminary round at the State Leadership Conference.
The final interview score will determine the placement and awards for the final round at the State Leadership Conference.
We hope that this blog and video serves you well as you begin to prepare, and we wish you the best of luck at future conferences!
