This blog covers the speaking events: Impromptu Speaking, Introduction to Public Speaking, and Public Speaking.
All of these events are designed for members in grades 9 through 12 except for Introduction to Public Speaking, which is designed for grades 9 through 10.
In all of these events, chapters can submit 1 individual entry. The top 1 entry from each RLC will advance to state.
These events require a speech. In Introduction to Public Speaking and Impromptu speaking, you will be given 4 minutes to deliver your speech and will receive a penalty for going under 3 minutes and 31 seconds. In Public Speaking you will be given 5 minutes to deliver your speech and will receive a penalty for going under 4 minutes and 31 seconds.
For both Introduction to Public Speaking and Public Speaking, there will not be a preannounced topic and competitors must develop a speech based on one or more of the nine FBLA goals. Impromptu speaking includes a 10 minute prep time which will be when you receive the topic.
We hope that this blog and video serve you well as you begin to prepare, and we wish you the best of luck at future conferences!
