Douglas County High School FBLA members learn about leadership

September 2017 guest speaker Gerald Johnson

Businessman and former state representative Gerald Johnson helped the students see that leadership is within each of them. Using the example of goose leadership, Mr. Johnson explained the role of each goose in the process of trying to cross the road without getting run over. Students participated in an interactive presentation. Another key aspect of the presentation was for students to think about what they believe. Each student was given an index card and asked to write three down three of their beliefs. The responses varied, but the commonality among them was “relationships”. Mr. Johnson shared a recent study on successful people and their relationships. Successful people learn from friends older than themselves, are encouraged by friends their own age, stay relevant, and share their wisdom with friends younger than themselves.
