The Metter High School Future Business Leaders of America sponsored a blood drive with the Shepeard Community Blood Center on campus in early November. Students were encouraged to either donate blood if they met the age, height, and weigh requirements and/or recruit a family member, friend, or community member to donate on their behalf. Students who donate or have someone else donate for them three times in a school year will receive a red cord to wear at graduation. There is also no limit to how many red cords students can earn during their high school career.
Students, faculty and staff, and community members volunteered their time and donated blood in an effort to meet the goal of 75 donors. The total number of good units of blood collected was 49. Ten brand new donors participated in this blood drive.
The goal of an FBLA sponsored blood drive is to increase the blood supply in Georgia and to educate students about the selfless act of giving blood and its positive effect on the community. This is in hopes that they will give blood on a regular basis and continue to be lifelong donors in the future.
