We all know studying for a Region, State, or National competition can be stressful, especially because you are going against the best of the best from your region, state, or even across the country!
Prior to attending your conference, you should look up some practice tests online and see if there are any relevant exams available at your disposal. Test Frenzy, for example, is a great source for anyone who wants a practice test for his or her topic.
For another great source check Quizlet for any key terms, vocabulary words, and questions that are applicable to your test.
When arriving at the competition, at the moment you receive a schedule or list of events you should locate your competition room and learn the time at which your test will be taking place. You do not want to be worried about figuring out where you are going at the last minute! The key is to minimize stress if you want to do well at any competition. So, it is recommended you arrive early to your event (10-15 minutes). You should act as you are comfortable, you might want to avoid talking to other competitors if it influences your focus in a negative way. If chatting and networking do not bother you, then relax in whatever way is best for you!
Lastly, the key to doing well is to ask those who previously took the same topic. See if you can network with any of these members of alumni. Asking those who performed well in these events can definitely give you a leg-up in terms of preparation!
Hopefully, these tips will allow you to be prepared for your next event. Good luck to you on your upcoming competitions!
