As a high school student, one is expected to look into colleges and think about one’s future and prepare for it. It sounds simple, but the topic can be difficult to dwell upon. It can be difficult to figure out where to start. What many do not expect is that when they join FBLA, they will be provided with a road map to their future. The Business Achievement Awards, or BAAs, is a set of activities that are to be completed individually. Each activity furthers the member’s understanding of business and the world while also causing them to think about their future.
BAA’s are split into three main categories: Service, Education, and Progress. Service activities involve the member working to improve their school, local businesses, and state. The activities are meant to improve their understanding of the connection between the community and business world. Education activities are meant to prepare the member for the perils of the business world and how to make it as an entrepreneur. Progress activities are centered on FBLA itself. They are meant to better the members understanding of how an organization works and why each level is important.
To some, the BAAs may seem to simply be more work; however, upon closer examination, they may come to realize the significant benefits these activities provide to every high school student. For instance, most of the activities under Service deal with community service directly- which is an element that is required to graduate from high school and to be accepted into college. Various activities within Education deal with thinking about your future. The category itself even focuses on one’s education past high school. The BAAs teach many skills that are valuable to students!
