Meeting Tip of the Month

The time has almost come for you to say goodbye to 2016 and your FBLA classroom, your FBLA advisors and your FBLA friends. Luck for you however, there’s still one event left where you have all three of those things together!

Your last chapter meeting of the 2016 school year is a great time to celebrate with your entire chapter all the SHINING things you have accomplished this year, and the even greater things you have planned in 2017.

You can make your December chapter meeting extra special by doing these unique things!

1) Pick a Theme

A theme will give your chapter something to base the whole meeting around. It allows you and your chapter members to have a little fun while also finding out what cool things you can participate in.  A great theme for a December chapter meeting is the holidays of course! Instead of having a festive chapter meeting,  plan a Chapter Holiday Party!

2) Provide Food

If I know one thing about FBLA members, it is that they LOVE food. For your holiday party or special chapter meeting, ask your members to bring in various food items such as cookies or cupcakes. Other suggestions are gingerbread cookies, ham, or cranberry sauce if you want your meeting to be extra festive. If everyone provides just a little bit, all your attendees are guaranteed to enjoy some good food.

3) Hold a Costume Contest

An activity that you could have at your holiday chapter meeting could be a festive costume contest among your members. This gives members the opportunity to get involved and have fun, plus FBLA members love a little friendly competition. You can have a costume contest with your chosen theme, award a prize to the winner, and give your members the opportunity to earn recognition within the chapter. This also gives you an opportunity to see the creative costumes your members come up with, and makes for great photos for Twitter and Instagram.

4) Play Games

Now what would a party be without games? Have various holiday-themed games such as Name that Carol, Secret Santa, or Pin the Red Nose on Rudolph. You can also have some of your members and officers volunteer to bring in fun board games, or why not set up a DIY photo booth for your members to use too!

5) Have Music

A must have for any party is some good music and songs to sing along to. You can find many seasonal themed playlists on Spotify, Pandora, and SoundCloud. Bring out the best and worst of your members’ singing voices with some fun tunes! You can also play music during regular chapter meetings at the beginning and the end to get everyone excited for the meeting.

Ending 2016 on a high note is a great way to get your entire chapter excited about the upcoming holiday break and for the second half of the FBLA year!

Make sure you post pictures or videos from you chapter meeting on social media usining the #GAFBLA. Have a great holiday season, Georgia FBLA!
