Georgia FBLA members are given the opportunity to compete in nearly 100 different competitive events at the region, state, and national levels. These events include objective tests, interviews, technical skills tests, written reports, and performances.
2022-2023 Competitive Event Changes (High School):
NEW EVENTS
Introduction to Marketing Concepts – Individual, objective test
RLC – will be offered for recognition & practice. No SLC Qualification element
SLC – Competitors can take this test without having qualified at RLC
NAME CHANGES
Digital Animation – This is the event formerly known as 3-D Animation. Projects may now utilize 2-D or 3-D animation
EVENT MODIFICATIONS
Broadcast Journalism – changes to FLC qualification for SLC
FLC – Competitors will present to a panel of judges at the Fall Leadership Conference in November, rather than submitting a pre-recorded video with RLC presubmissions.
SLC – The top entries statewide, with at least the first place in each of the FLC sections, will present a live unproduced broadcast to a panel of judges at SLC
Business Ethics – Will now include an objective test and one-page summary presubmission only at SLC; changes to FLC qualification for FLC.
FLC – Competitors will present to a panel of judges at the Fall Leadership Conference in November, rather than submitting a pre-recorded video with RLC presubmissions. There will not be a test or case summary PDF submission at this level.
SLC – The top entries statewide, with at least the first place in each of the FLC section will advance ot SLC. Competitors will take an objective test, submit a one-page case study summary, and will present live to a panel of judges to a panel of judges at SLC
Client Service – changes to FLC qualification for SLC
FLC – Competitors will role play with a panel of judges at the Fall Leadership Conference in November, rather than competing at RLC.
SLC – The top entries statewide, with at least the first and second place in each of the FLC sections, will role play with a panel of judges at SLC
Graphic Design
RLC – Competitors will now submit a prejudged PDF project portfolio (single file) by November 15 with all RLC presubmissions. These presubmissions will be prejudged and the top finalists in each region will present their project to a panel of judges at their RLCs. All competitors for this event must be registered as a RLC attendee.
SLC – The first place entry from each RLC will advance to SLC, plus any remaining wild cards from the regions with a larger number of competing teams. There is no SLC presubmission.
Impromptu Speaking – changes to FLC qualification for SLC
FLC – Competitors will present impromptu speech to a panel of judges at the Fall Leadership Conference in November, rather than competing at RLC.
SLC – The top entries statewide, with at least the first and second place in each of the FLC sections, will present impromptu speech to a panel of judges at SLC

This event will now have a preannounced topic about which competitors must speak.

Website Design

These presubmissions will be prejudged and the top finalists in each region will present their project to a panel of judges at their RLCs. All competitors for this event must be registered as a RLC attendee.
SLC – The first place entry from each RLC will advance to SLC, plus any remaining wild cards from the regions with a larger number of competing teams.
All Team Case Study/Interactive Role Play Events – no more collaborative tests
Team entries in these events (Banking & Financial Systems, Business Ethics, Business Management, Entrepreneurship, Hospitality & Event Management, International Business, Introduction to Event Planning, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Network Design, Sports & Entertainment Management) will no longer take a collaborative test. Instead, team members will take a test individually and independently and the test scores will be averaged together. Teams that continue to take a test collaboratively will be automatically disqualified.
Time Penalties
Time penalties for all presentation events have been eliminated. Instead, competitors must end presentation when time is called. No more minimum time penalty for Impromptu Speaking, Intro to Public Speaking, Parliamentary Procedure, and Public Speaking.
Repeat Competitors
For all individual/team events, members may repeat in that event as long as they have not placed in that event at a previous NLC. This rule supersedes all prior repeat competitor rules.
Official Dress Requirement Changes
The blue FBLA tie and scarf are no longer required elements of the Georgia FBLA Official Dress for performance competitors. However, boys must still wear a necktie/bowtie with their collared button-up dress shirts.
2022-2023 Competitive Event Changes (Middle School):
RETURNING EVENTS
Business Math – Individual objective test at RLC and ML SLC; state only event – no national competition
RETIRED EVENTS
Employability Skills – This event has been retired.
MODIFIED EVENTS
Business Ethics – no team collaborative test at SLC
RLC- Competitors will now only submit a prerecorded video presentation for RLC. There will not be an objective test at RLC.
ML SLC – Competitors will present before a panel of judges and must have also taken the objective test during ML SLC online testing. The test will no longer be a collaborative test among team members. Instead, each team member will now take an individual test independently and the team members’ scores will be averaged together.
Public Speaking (Middle School) – Competitors in this event will now be given a preannounced topic on which they must develop their speech.
Time Penalties
Time penalties for all presentation events have been eliminated. Instead, competitors must end presentation when time is called. No more minimum time penalty for Public Speaking.
