Five ways to connect with local officers

The summer is over and your year in FBLA has started, but for a select group of individuals, it is their job and responsibility to make this their chapters “Time to Shine” this year in Georgia FBLA.
Many newly chosen or elected chapter officer teams will be hard at work as they begin preparing their chapters for incredible accomplishments.
A key aspect of any team is the need for a strong level of communication to be in place on a daily basis, so here are five tips to stay connected with your officer team through the year.
 GroupMe
The first thing you and your new officer team should do is create a GroupMe. This app allows you to send group messages via the app itself or as a regular text message to your designated “group.” You can choose to add your advisers or have one GroupMe with your advisers and another just with chapter officers. This is a great way to keep the flow of communication between officers and advisers.
Chapter Officer Outing
Having an officer team that knows each other and works well together is a great way to ensure your chapter’s success. Doing an officer team bonding activity or outing is a great way to start getting your team on the same page. This could be going as a group to the movies or even a simple bowling event. You could also incorporate some type of activity where you have to work together as a team to get a better understanding of your team’s skills and strengths.
Officer Meetings
Apart from chapter meetings in your FBLA chapter, you should also have regular officer meetings. This way everyone can keep track of their responsibilities and get an update on what’s coming up and the things that must be planned and done. You can make officer meetings fun by bringing in everyone’s favorite breakfast food or snack. This way there is an added benefit for attending a morning meeting (which some people can dread).
Google Docs
Google Docs are a great way to share document-based information with your entire officer team. This is a great tool for officers to view and make changes to a chapter meeting PowerPoint presentations, speaking roles or membership lists, and can keep everyone updated quickly and easily.
Google+ Hangouts
Google Hangouts are a great way for your officer team to stay connected even though you are not together. You are able to video call your team during the school year or over the summer. This is a great way to plan out the year, create a Program of Work (POW) and make it your chapters best year yet!
With these tips in mind, you can effectively stay connected with your chapter’s officer team over the school year and make this year your chapters “Time to Shine!”
