Icebreaker of the Month
Do you have members that refuse to participate in icebreakers? Are your students tired of doing the same exact things at every meeting? This month’s icebreaker is sure to make every member participating laugh.
JUST SING IT
To play this icebreaker, all you will need is your members divided into 4-7 even groups and an officer or adviser with a broad knowledge of music to serve as the judge. The object of the game is to be the last group standing. The rules of the game are you cannot repeat a song, hesitate to start your song, or sing an incorrect to the category song.
- Put categories into a bowl for the judge to draw. The categories should be easy, and nothing too challenging because once the members are put onto the spot is where the game gets fun and they will eventually run out of ideas.
- Some topics could include:
- Songs with the word “love” in it
- Songs by Taylor Swift
- 1980’s hits
- Disney Pixar Songs
- Have the groups stand together and far enough apart from other groups to be able to know where each group is. If a group gets out of the game, have them sit down.
- Time to begin the game! The judge draws the first category and announces it loud enough for all groups to hear. “THE CATEGORY IS…. DISNEY PIXAR SONGS!”
- The judge will then point to the first group of his or her choice. It is important not to get into a pattern when picking groups so that the groups will not know when they are going to be picked. When a group is appointed by the judge they must immediately start their song fitting to the category. They must continue to sing the song until the judge points to the next group. If a group repeats a song, sings a song incorrect to the category, or hesitates to starts, the group is then out of the game and must sit down. The current category then ends and the judge will draw the next one. The winner of the game is the last group standing.
