MAP Activity of the Month #3: November is for Giving Thanks!

The spirit of the giving season can be contagious! With Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner, your chapter has a lot of opportunities to give back to the community. Participating in a service activity can increase your chapter’s Chapter of the Year points and can also help complete another MAP activity! You may even use this project when your chapter competes in the Community Service Project event. This competitive event is a chapter event and your chapter could even be recognized at the State and National levels!

Show your love for your senior citizens by participating in a project that directly benefits them! Volunteer to perform yard work for the elderly, spend time with nursing home residents, organize an Internet class for senior citizens, or even help cheerfully decorate a nursing home! Senior citizens in the community are always appreciative of the help the students provide, and students can learn many ethical values from giving back to their community.

In order to receive credit for completing this service activity on your BAAs, you must write a 100-word summary describing how you benefited from the project. Your chapter can use a word processing program to complete this requirement. Make sure to have the typed summary proofread before submission! If possible, consult the Official FBLA Format Guide to correctly format your FBLA Report. If you have pictures, add it to your report! Pictures are a great way to embellish your report and give proof of your participation to the reviewer.

This activity is Activity #1 under the School/Community Service category of the Enterprise Level BAA. You will want to have this activity completed by November 26 (Thanksgiving Day) because most of the available service opportunities will occur prior to this date. A great project to perform is Feed the City, which is also a Georgia FBLA State Service Project! For more information on the BAAs, please visit http://www.fbla-pbl.org/data/files/docs/2015/1020/1516_MAP.pdf. It is never too late to start working on your BAAs!
